James L Setser's Obituary
James L. Setser, age 92, of Grafton, passed away Sunday May 25, 2014 at Keystone Point Nursing Home following a brief illness.
He was born in Munition, WV. He moved to Parma in 1955 and then later to Grafton, with his late wife.
Jim is a retired US steel worker and Midview School District employee until his retirement in 1989.
Jim was a devoted member of the Faith Baptist Temple in North Ridgeville for many years and was baptized in 1960. James was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting, golfing, boating, bowling and archery. Jim also enjoyed gardening and doing yard work and taking long rides on his motorcycle. James enjoyed traveling with his late wife in their RV to visit friends in several states and spending time at his resort property in Seneca, OH. He was a member of the VFW Post 3341 in Grafton.
James is a World War II Veteran. He was a Staff Sergeant in 331st Infantry, Company H, 83rd Division in the U.S. Army. Jim was stationed in Camp Atterbury, IN. and Camp Breckenridge, KY. He was deployed to East Liverpool, England; Normandy, France; Belgium and Germany. Jim fought in the invasion of Normandy where he was injured. He received an Honorable Discharge on December 2, 1945. While serving his country, he received a Purple Heart, July 1943, Good Conduct Metal; European Ribbon and Expert Rifleman Medal; American Theater Service Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon; and World War II Victory Ribbon. Jim’s proudest memory of his life would be his marriage of 71 ½ years to his late wife, Beth. They were married on May 30, 1942, in Pine Knob, WV. What a love story they could tell.
Survivors include his sisters, Josephine Echard of Xenia, OH and Iris Morris of Point Pleasant, WV; loving uncle to several nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his wife, Audera Bethlene (nee Cook) Setser; parents, Clarence and Wavie Setser; sister, Juanita Broaka; brother Clarence Setser Jr. and Kenneth D. Setser.
Friends may call Saturday May 31, 2014 from 11AM until time of service at 12PM in Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon where the VFW post 9871 will conduct military honors.
