James W. Comerford's Obituary
James W. Comerford Jr., age 87, of North Ridgeville, passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on March 1, 1938, in Avon. He graduated from Elyria Catholic High School in 1956 before joining the United States Air Force for six years. He wed Jean (nee Conley) in 1961, traveling together for his work with the Federal Aviation Administration, and eventually settling down in North Ridgeville, where he has been a resident for the past 75 years. He worked for 46 years as a system engineer for the FAA in Oberlin, retiring in 2004. James was a dedicated family man. He utilized his many talents to help his family however they needed; from building additions and garages, to remodeling and all things house maintenance, to car and engine repair. He enjoyed his vegetable and flower gardens, golf, cars, aviation, and especially spending time with his family. His patient temperament and perseverance in achieving his goals were evident in all aspects of his life. He may have been a man of few words, but his actions showed the steadfast love of a husband, father, brother, and friend. He is survived by his children James (Zenaida) Comerford of Mansfield, Maureen Lee of North Ridgeville, William (Beth) Comerford of Bucyrus and Colleen (Travis) Franke of Avon; 12 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; brother William (Regina) Comerford of North Ridgeville; sisters Cathleen Nells, Patricia Skapin and Jennifer Comerford; many nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Mona (Jean - nee Conley) Comerford; son Timothy Comerford; parents Coletta (nee Kinzel) and James Comerford Sr.; sisters Judy (Jim) Newell and Anne (Steve) Gilkeson; brothers-in-law Glenn Nells and Robert Skapin.
Family will receive friends in the Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Road, N. Ridgeville, on Sunday, June 15 from 2:00-5:00 p.m. and on Monday, June 16 at 12:30 p.m. for a prayer service preceding a 1:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter Church, 35777 Center Ridge Road, N. Ridgeville. Rev. Bob Franco will officiate. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Peter Cemetery.
