James Berchak's Obituary
James L. Berchak, age 78, of North Ridgeville, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at Lakewood Hospital, following a lengthy illness.
Born in Brooklyn, he was a resident of North Ridgeville for the past 3 years moving from Brooklyn Hts.
Jim served in the US Navy with the V. P. 21 Air Squadron during the Korean Conflict.
He was the President of Standard Display and Manufacturing Company in Cleveland for 40 years, retiring in 1998.
He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, North Ridgeville, 1st Degree with the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 717 and the Sunnybrook Trout club.
He enjoyed fishing, boating and traveled extensively.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Bonnie (nee Shaffer); sons, Tim of Parma, Gregory (Susan) of Middleburg Hts., Christopher (Laura) of Rocky River, Matthew of Parma Hts.; daughter, Valerie (Jim) Schmitz of Columbia Station; grandchildren, Steven, Jason, Hannah, Josh, Ryan, Rebecca, Marah, Ellie, Nick, Rachel and Kristin; brothers, Russell and Kenneth (Mary Jane); sister-in-law, Vickie Bourne of Cleveland; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Hilda (nee Rielinger) Berchak.
Friends may call Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Rd., North Ridgeville, where a prayer service will be held on Saturday at 9:30 AM. A 10:00 AM Mass will follow at St. Peter Catholic Church, 35777 Center Ridge Road. Rev. Bob Franco, Pastor, will be the celebrant.
Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, North Olmsted, where VFW Post 9871 will conduct military honors.
