J. Barrie Akin's Obituary
J. Barrie Akin, age 74, of Carlisle Twp. passed away on Monday, June 9, 2014 at his home following a long illness.
He was born in Fremont and had been a resident of Carlisle Twp. since 2005 moving from Spring City, Tennessee. He lived in North Ridgeville from 1947-1988.
Barrie was the owner and operator of Akin & Akin Auto Body in North Ridgeville from 1965-1988.
He was a social member of the Oberlin VFW and the Grafton VFW where he served on the honor guard. He enjoyed being a Cub Scout leader and loved fishing.
He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Grafton.
He was formerly active at St. Peter Church in North Ridgeville, where he volunteered with CYO for 8 years and was involved with the Holy Name Society and also was an usher.
Survivors include his sons, J. Allen (Deb) Akin of North Ridgeville, Timothy Lee (Judy) Akin of LaGrange; daughters, Tammy S. (Brett) Akin-Stevanus of LaGrange, Pamela Ann (Gene) Pence of Ashland, Theresa Lynn (Jason) Strohm of Carlsbad, CA; 5 grandchildren, and 2great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Etta (nee Collins); parents, Joseph Elwyn and Frances Anna (nee Gibbons) Akin; grandson, Kevin Daily, and sister, Charleen Woessner.
Friends may call Thursday, June 12, 2014 from 5-8PM in Bogner Family 36625 Center Ridge Rd. North Ridgeville where prayer services will be held on Friday at 9:30AM immediately followed by a 10AM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Peter Catholic Church, 35777 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery.
