Hester Mccallie's Obituary
Hester J. McCallie (nee Sims) age 84, of N. Ridgeville passed away Thursday, November 15, 2007 at the Oak Ridge Nursing Home, Westlake following a long illness.
She was born in Manila, Arkansas and had been a resident of Lorain and N. Ridgeville for most of her life. She had also resided in Avon Lake.
During WWII she worked as "Rosy the Riveter" in Pascagoula, Mississippi. Mrs. McCallie was also employed as a welder for Fruehauf Trailer Company in Avon, and as a cook for Wilcox Elementary School in N. Ridgeville for 20 years, retiring in 1987.
She was a member of the Eastern Stars of Elyria for a number of years. Her hobbies included crocheting and baking many varieties of cookies at Christmas time to share with her friends and family.
Survivors include her daughter, Betty (Leroy) Berthold of Grafton; four grandchildren, Shawn McCallie of Westlake, Michael Fine (Trica) of Vacaville, CA, Joseph Berthold (Cary) of LaGrange and Debra Hamilton (Donald) of Elyria; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Nancy McCallie; sisters, Hattie Sledge and Nettie Martin; brother, Carl Sims and parents, John R. and Nancy M. Sims (nee Waddel).
Friends may call Monday from 7-9PM at the David Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Road, N. Ridgeville where services will be held at 9:30 AM Tuesday. Rev.Gerald G. Flury, Pastor of N. Ridgeville Baptist Church will officiate. Interment to follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Avon.
