Herman W. Herring's Obituary
Herman W. Herring, age 92, of North Ridgeville, passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky after a lengthy illness. He was born on July 9, 1923 in Franklin Heights, IL, and was a resident of North Ridgeville for 41 years, moving from Rhode Island and Maine. Herman was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII and was a member of the Seabees. He worked as a welder for Elyria Foundry, retiring in 1993 and had been a Nazarene Minister for 19 years while living in Rhode Island and Maine. He was a member of the Elyria Community Church of the Nazarene, where he was an Elder and Visitation Pastor. He also belonged to the Jolly 60’s, the Good Time Messengers and volunteered with the Meals on Wheels program.
In his free time, Herman enjoyed reading and exercising.
He is survived by his sons Richard T. (Deborah Sellers) Herring of Florida, Michael T. (Marsha Palen) Herring of Avon and Jonathan (Connie Moore) Herring of Minnesota; 4 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; brothers James and Harvey Herring; sisters Vivian Freeman and Betty Wilmont; many nieces and nephews.
Herman was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Miriam Ruth (nee Johnson) Herring; sister Ivalee Wolfe.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, August 4th at 6:30 p.m. in the Elyria Community Church of the Nazarene, 1107 Clemens Ave., Elyria 44035. Pastor George Gribben III will officiate. A private family interment will be in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, OH. The family requests donations be made in Herman’s name to the Ohio Veterans Home, Attn: Treasurer, 3416 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, OH 44870.
