Herbert Whary's Obituary
Herbert W. Whary, age 78, of Elyria died Thursday November 30, 2006 at Grace Hospital in Amherst following a short illness. He was born November 10, 1928 in Gowan City, Pennsylvania and had been a resident of Elyria the past 56 years.
Mr. Whary attended Shamokin High School and joined the US Navy to serve his country in WW II on June 11, 1946. He served in the US Navy Submarine Corp. After his honorable discharge in April of 1948, he returned home and married the love of his life, Genevieve Fox. They celebrated 55 years of marriage this past September.
Mr. Whary later graduated from General Motors Institute of Technology where he became a Tool and Die Specialist. He was employed by the Ridge Tool Company of Elyira for 35 years and retired in 1988. He also worked for his own investment company during that time.
He was a member of the Frank S. Harmon Lodge 663 F and AM for the past 40 years and the Scottish Rite Valley of Cleveland 32nd degree. He was also a member of Elyria Polish Club and Grace Lutheran Church in Elyria where he served as an Elder. He enjoyed working in the family business, Northwest Limousine Service of Elyria. He also enjoyed Flying his Plane and Hunting, Hiking at his cabin in Punxsutawney Pennsylvania and playing with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Genevieve and his son and daughter in law, Kim and Judith Whary of Grafton, two grandchildren, Michael and Rachel Whary of Grafton, two sisters, Grace Yanick of New Castle, Delaware and Betty Bourne of Fremont, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbert and Mary Whary, twin sons, Jeffrey and John Whary, Grandson, Timothy Herbert Whary, two brothers, Elvin and Robert Whary and two sisters, Helen Klime and Irene Gardner.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 3-6 PM at the David Bogner Family Funeral Home 36625 Center Ridge Road North Ridgeville, where the Elyria Masonic Lodge will conduct a Masonic service at 5:30 PM Sunday. Funeral service will be held 11 AM Monday at Grace Lutheran Church, Elyria. Pastor Henry Baum will officiate. Burial will follow in Butternut Ridge Cemetery, Eaton Township. Military honors will be provided by the US Navy.
