Harry Jackson's Obituary
Harry F. "Cap" Jackson, 89 of North Ridgeville died Thursday September 18, 2008 at EMH Regional Medical Center following a short illness.
Mr. Jackson was employed as a machinist for Ridge Tool, Elyria for thirty-six years retiring in 1980. He served as a Sergeant in the US Army 26th Infantry Division during WWII, and was a life member of the North Ridgeville VFW Post 9871. He was a charter member of the WW II Memorial in Washington, DC. He was also a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, North Ridgeville and a former member of Trinity Congregational United Church of Christ, Winterhaven, FL. He enjoyed gardening and farming the sixty acres of land which he owned at his home in North Ridgeville. He also enjoyed bowling, camping, and spending time with his family.
Surviving is his wife of sixty-two years, Betty (nee Robinson ); daughter, Sandy Gast ( Richard) of Sheffield; four sons, Thomas ( Lois) of Mt. Juliet, TN, Phillip (Marilyn) of Somerville, TN, Richard (Cheri) of Brighton, CO and Kenneth (Linda) of Endwell, NY; fourteen grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and "special daughter" Jackie Jenkins of Sheffield.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Grace and Henry Jackson, by a brother, Wayne Jackson and by sisters, Ellen and Ruth Menges.
The family will receive friends in the David Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Rd., North Ridgeville on Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. where services will be held at 10:30AM Monday. Rev. John Fairweather, pastor of First Congregational Church of Christ, North Ridgeville will officiate. Entombment to follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon where the North Ridgeville VFW Post 9871 will conduct full military honors.
