Harriet B. Mathes' Obituary
Harriet B. Mathes (nee Bowers), age 86, passed away on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at her home after a lengthy, courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on November 6, 1934 in Glady, West Virginia and has been a resident of Elyria for the past 53 years, moving from Baltimore. She worked as a dietary technician for the United Methodist Home, retiring in 2000.
Harriet enjoyed listening to country music, shopping, cooking for and playing cards with her family. The summer months would find her tending to her flower garden. She provided loving care to many family members over her entire life.
She is survived by her daughters Patricia A. Lopez of Elyria and L. Ruth (Len) Vittori of Elyria; son Denny (Melissa) Mathes of Lodi; grandchildren Tobias and Adrienne Mathes, Danny, Michael and Cathy Chambers, Andrew Vittori, Elizabeth (Nick) Handley, Brad (Stephanie), Bryan (Nora) and Dennis (Caleigh) Mathes; many great grandchildren whom she was proud of; brother Huey (Scarlett) Bowers; many nieces and nephews.
Harriet was preceded in death by her son Randall William Mathes; parents Harry and Luella Mae (nee George) Bowers; siblings Pete Bowers, Esther J. Kegley, Harry Bowers Jr., Ruth Bowers and Hansel Bowers.
Family will receive friends in the Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Rd., N. Ridgeville on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. Funeral Services will be on Monday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Rev. Christine Vanderbuilt will officiate. Interment will be in Brookdale Cemetery.
