Harold R. "Grumpy" Dunlap's Obituary
Harold R. “Grumpy” Dunlap, age 86, of North Ridgeville, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at the St. John Medical Center in Westlake, with his family by his side.
He was born on July 20, 1939, in Olean, New York, and has been a resident of North Ridgeville for the past 50 years, moving from Erie, Pennsylvania. Harold was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving as an M.P., and went on to earn a Master’s degree before becoming an accountant, ultimately retiring from the Department of Defense.
Harold always had a keen interest in learning and was an avid reader. He was always searching out obscure facts and enjoyed engaging in conversation about what he found. He was a baseball and hockey fan, especially of the Toronto Maple Leafs. He was the author and creator of the “Retirement Village Calendar”, leaving his son David to now carry on that tradition. He loved a good game of cribbage, or a challenging crossword puzzle and had a passion for antique cars over the years. He will forever be remembered for the wax lips that he introduced to the family, which have been adorned by them at countless family events and photos.
He is survived by his sons Larry (Rita) Dunlap of Bemus Point, New York and David (Kate) Dunlap of Medina; grandsons Brandon, Eric and Robby Dunlap; brother John Dunlap; many nieces and nephews.
Harold was preceded in death by his wife MaryAnn Catherine; parents Margaret and Harold L. Dunlap; brothers Charles and James Alvin Dunlap; sisters Gloria Demetro and Susan Dunmire.
Services will be private.
