Gilbert Cornish's Obituary
Gilbert V. "Gil" Cornish, age 79 of North Ridgeville, passed away peacefully Friday February 26, 2010 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain following a long illness.
He was born in Eaton Township, and had resided in North Ridgeville the past 61 years.
He worked as a plumber with the Plumbers Union Local 55, Cleveland until retiring in 1994.
Mr. Cornish was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and was a former member of the Knights of Columbus and the North Ridgeville Lions Club. He also was a member and past President of the North Ridgeville Republican Club.
He served on the North Ridgeville City Council for 16 years and was awarded the Charles H. Stuart Award for his many contributions to the Republican Party and his tireless work on behalf of the citizens of North Ridgeville.
Gil enjoyed snowmobiling, working in his yard, spending time with his great grandchildren and camping. When he retired, he and his wife took his dream trip, camping and traveling throughout Alaska for two months.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years Elaine C. (nee Hopkins), daughter, Bonnie (John) Lear, grandchildren Greg (Jennifer), Tom (Melissa) Lear, Jennifer (Joe) Schrickel, Great-grandchildren Brett, Emily, Madison and Allison Lear.
He was preceded in death by his Parents Vernon and Lucille Cornish, and Brothers Eugene and Don Cornish.
Friends will be received Monday 2-4 & 7- 9 pm at the David Bogner Family Funeral Home 36625 Center Ridge Road N. Ridgeville, where a prayer service will be held 9:30 AM Tuesday. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 AM at St. Peter Church. Reverend Bob Franco, Pastor will be the celebrant. Interment will be in St. Peter Cemetery.
