Gerald H. "Jerry" Ruppelt's Obituary
Gerald H. “Jerry” Ruppelt, age 90, of North Ridgeville, passed away Sunday, June 29, 2014, at Southwest Hospice in Strongsville, following a short illness.
He was born in Lakewood and had been a resident of North Ridgeville for over 60 years before moving to North Olmsted in February 2014.
He served in the US Army during WWII as a radio repairman.
Jerry owned and operated Ruppelt Building Company for over 60 years. He built many homes and businesses including a funeral home, the 2nd screen at the drive-in-theater, a hotel in Elyria and many other building projects for family and friends.
He was an active member of St. Peter Catholic Church in North Ridgeville where he was an usher and member of the Holy Name Society and a charter member of the Knights of Columbus. He also belonged to American Legion Post 12, Elyria where he was a past Commander.
He enjoyed talking on his ham radio, operator KA8BWI; watching his children and grandchildren at their sporting events and was an avid Akron Zips basketball fan. He also enjoyed growing his own vegetables.
Survivors include daughters, Kathy (John) Schoeb of North Ridgeville, Sue Kraley of Olmsted Falls, Barb (Neal) O’Malley of North Ridgeville; son, Kevin (Denise) Ruppelt of Southbury, Connecticut; 11 grandchildren and sister, Donalda Williams of Nazareth, Pennsylvania.
He was preceded in death by his wife Eileen (nee Morrow) in 2011 and parents, William and Agnes Ruppelt.
Friends may call Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-9PM at Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville where the American Legion will conduct honors at 6 PM and the Knights of Columbus will recite a Rosary at 7PM. A prayer service will be held on Thursday at 9:30AM in the funeral home followed by a 10 AM Mass at St. Peter Church, 35777 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville.
Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery, where VFW Post 9871 will conduct full military honors.
Memorials are suggest to St. Peter Church for Masses to be said in his memory.
