George J. Ropchock Sr.'s Obituary
George J. Ropchock Sr., age 86, of Amherst, passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at his home. He was born in Barnesboro, Pennsylvania and has been a resident of the Lorain County area for over 50 years. He proudly served as a Marine Corps Veteran and went on to work at NASA, retiring after 35 years of service. He was a devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst, and a proud member of American Legion Post 176 in Wellington. George loved being outdoors and going on long hikes with his wife and their dog. He also enjoyed fishing, golfing and tending to his garden. He and his entire family loved their annual camping trips to various state parks, and being the devoted family man he was, spending time with all of them brought him the most joy in life.
George is survived by his wife of 59 years, Kathleen; children Deborah (Mark) McCullough, George J. Ropchock Jr., Doreen (Paul) Bailey, Timothy Ropchock and Dawn (Jonas) Burke; 13 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; Brothers Jack, James and Terry Ropchock; sister Darlene Laney; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Mary Ropchock and brother Frank Ropchock.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, October 28 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Dr., Amherst 44001, where family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. Rev. Timothy J. O'connor will officiate. Private interment with full military honors will be in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in George’s name to the VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System, Attn: Development & Civic Engagement Office, 10701 East Blvd., Cleveland, OH 44106.
