Evelyn Schmittgen's Obituary
Evelyn F. Schmittgen (nee Stroud), 79, of North Ridgeville died Thursday April 16, 2009 at Five Stars Adult Care Home, Avon Lake following a short illness.
Mrs. Schmittgen was a lifelong resident of North Ridgeville, and involved herself in various community activities. She graduated from North Ridgeville Schools in 1948, was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, the North Ridgeville Choir, the North Ridgeville Community Choir, the Ladies Evening Society of church, and was past President of the North Ridgeville Junior Women's Club and North Ridgeville Women's League. She was also a soloist for area churches, and had modeled for local stores including Higbees and May Company. Her hobbies included extensive traveling, gardening, and reading.
Surviving is her husband of fifty-nine years, Robert V.; son, Rick (Carlotta) of Ingram, TX; two daughters, Renee Joseph (Mark) of Covington, KY and Randi Simkovich (Gary) of Avon; two grandchildren, Kelly Kassouf (James) and Bret Simkovich and a great-granddaughter, Alexandra Kassouf. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Wanda Stroud and sister, Juanita Elliott.
A memorial service will be held Monday at 6:00 PM at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 36363 Center Ridge Rd., North Ridgeville, 44039 with Rev. John Fairweather, pastor officiating. Private burial in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
Memorial donations have been suggested to the church or to New Life Hospice, 3700 Kolbe Rd. Lorain, OH 44053.
