Eugene C. "Gene" Braig III, age 69 of North Ridgeville, passed away Monday January 16, 2012 at Center Ridge Health Campus after suffering many years with chronic lung disease. He was born in Palo Alto, CA, and had resided in Nort Read Obituary
So sad to hear of Gene's passing, but it helps to think he is not struggling for breath anymore. He was a good friend, a funny guy, and a talented numismatist. My condolences to his family and friends-Wish I would have heard sooner.
I remember Gene from his attendance at several IKO-TAMS Token & Medal Shows in the 1990's. He avidly collected 1/2 cent tokens to augment his 1/2 cent coin collection. Sad to lose a felow collector.
Our Fairview High School Class of 1960 Alumni Committee sends our deepest sympathy to you on the loss of Gene. We will notify our classmates about his passing and pray that you will be able to find peace in the days to come.
I'm very sorry for your loss and hope these messages ease your pain. I had the pleasure of working with Gene at the Parma Plant and enjoyed his wit and sense of humor. He was always nice to me and we shared a mutual respect. He will surely be missed.

Thanks for the times we sat together for breakfast. It was at times like these that you encouraged my passion of seeing the world through Half Cents.
We shared jokes, political views, and life's challenges. The insights you shared with me will go on through my eyes and the encouragement I share with young numismatists.

Genie Boy, It is really sad knowing that you are not on this earth any more, but at least you are not suffering. I am sure you are having fun with all your friends and relatives that have gone before. I know that your mom and dad, our grandparents, my mom, and Tim were waiting for your arrival. I do not know who will correct my spelling and grammar when I send emails now - you would always find my mistakes. We sure did have fun running around the old house on Newport News Avenue and the Gyspies never did take us away.

On reflection, I more and more recognize how similar our personalities were even though our interests widely diverged. Goodbye, Dad, and thanks for being so attentive even to life's last event.
Gene was and has been a frend and mentor to the members of the Lorain Numismatic Association. We regret the loss of a fellow collector. There will be no way to replace him and his vast knowlege of the hobby. Our sympathies and regrets go out to his family.

Gene, or "Genie Boy" was one very cool dude. Being 10 yrs older than I, I looked up to him for everything that was hip in the late 60's and 70's.
After we both matured I remember him for purchasing a few GM sedans all very straight looking with VERY LARGE engines and manual transmissions - always a sleeper, ready to go, and one of the original street racers.
I also recall he was a good poker player but I have to defer to my father for the definitive assessment of Genie's skills in that department. I do recall a few pink slips changing hands here and there.
I'm glad he is now at peace - living with lung disease has got to be a tough life.
