Edward Sopko's Obituary
Edward F. Sopko, age 82, of Elyria, passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at his home.
Born in Lakewood, he was a resident of Elyria for the past 50 years and previously lived in Berea.
Mr. Sopko served in the US Navy during WWII.
He worked as a wheel changer for New York Central Railroad for 10 years. He then went on to work as a salesperson selling bibles and encyclopedias and as a photographer, taking pictures for church directories, retiring in 1979.
He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Elyria and enjoyed woodworking and working in the garage.
Survivors include daughters, Linda Gerding of Elyria, Sharon (Leonard) Cogar of Sheffield Village; son, Dennis (Jenny) Sopko of Elyria; eight grandchildren and sister, Dr. Margaret Littman of Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy, January 29, 2007; daughter, Judy Sopko in 1957; brother, John Sopko; sisters, Lori Durante, Annie Sopko and Sr. Mary Francis Sopko.
Friends may call Sunday 2-4PM at the David Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Road, N. Ridgeville where a prayer service will be held on Monday at 9:00AM followed by a 9:30AM mass at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 320 Middle Ave., Elyria. Rev. Thom Kowatch, Pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Brookpark 12 Noon Wednesday with full military honors conducted by the N. Ridgeville VFW Post 9871..
