Edmund F. Smith's Obituary
Edmund F. Smith, age 77, of North Ridgeville, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on October 19, 2013.
He was born on March 23, 1936 in Detroit MI, and has been a resident of North Ridgeville for the past 47 years. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during the Korean Conflict and worked as an Electronics Technician at N.A.S.A., retiring in 1993.
Edmund was very active as an umpire in the Lorain County area, umping games for the North Ridgeville Little League for many years. He was also the Secretary Treasurer for the Elyria Area Umpires Association and Assigning Secretary for the Ohio High School Athletic Association. He acted as Past President of the North Ridgeville Band Boosters, was an Adult Boy Scout Leader, and a member of American Legion Post 717, North Ridgeville.
In his free time, Edmund was an Amateur Radio Operator, an avid camper, fisherman, and especially enjoyed traveling with his late wife Carol.
He is survived by his children Ken (Mary) Smith of Elyria, Cathy (John-deceased) Antus of Lakewood, Gary (Kathy) Smith of North Ridgeville and Richard (Robin) Smith of Elyria; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Edmund was preceded in death by his wife Carol in 2011 and parents Edmond F. and Edith May (nee Nordstrom) Smith; stepfather Byron Payne.
Funeral Services Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 10:00 a.m. in the Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Rd., N. Ridgeville, where family will receive friends on Tuesday, 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Interment with Military Honors at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
