Earl J. Poorman's Obituary
Earl J. Poorman, age 96, of Amherst, passed away on Monday, September 26, 2022 at his home.
He was born on August 11, 1926 in Youngstown, Ohio and had been a longtime resident of North Olmsted, moving to Avon Lake and most recently Amherst. He was a member of the U.S. Merchant Marines during World War II and went on to work as a construction manager and Vice President at Seuffert Construction, retiring in 2001. He was a member of the Freemasons and A fresh Wind Church in Elyria, where he was very involved.
Earl was very vibrant and charismatic, never happy just sitting down, unless it was for a good glass of wine! Carpentry was not only a job for him, he enjoyed it as a hobby as well, being very handy around the house. The summer months would find Earl sailing, going on long walks and golfing.
He is survived by his sons Bruce (Christy) Poorman, Bradley Poorman and Jim (Allison) Poorman; daughter Mary (Tim Corriveau) Poorman; grandchildren Patrick, Katie, Ryan, Abby, Kelsey, Luke, Ty, Cole, Vaughn and Corinne; great grandchildren Beau and Mack; many nieces and nephews. The family is forever grateful for Martha Montgomery and her family. Their love and care have been important to Earl and us.
He was preceded in death by his wife Joan; parents John and Grace (nee Lute) Poorman; brother David Poorman; sisters Wilma Jean Woods, Peg Oberg, Donna Mae Walter and Ruth Garvin.
Funeral Service Saturday, October 8 at 3:00 p.m. at A Fresh Wind Church, 45155 Telegraph Rd, Elyria, OH 44035. Pastor Tim Holt and Earl’s son Jim Poorman will co-officiate the service. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to A Fresh Wind Church or Hydrating Humanity (through A Fresh Wind Church), both at 45155 Telegraph Road, Elyria, 44035
