Donald E. St. John's Obituary
Donald E. St. John, 82, of North Ridgeville, passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at Ames Family Hospice House in Westlake, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Geneva, and had been a resident of North Ridgeville since 1997.
Donald served in the US Marine Corp from 1952-1972 and retired as a Master Gunnery Sergeant. Don met and married his wife, Yukiko, in Fukuoko, Japan. Don served in Japan, Vietnam, Hawaii, Eltoro, California, Cherry Point, North Carolina, Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland and Iwakuni, Japan. He was a flight engineer on C-119-C-46 R4D-8 and C-54 aircraft.
He worked for Ohio Department of Transportation as an Assistant Superintendent of the Ashtabula County Department for 23 years, retiring in 1995.
He was a member of the VFW Post in Avon and the American Legion in Elyria.
He enjoyed playing games on the computer and going to casinos. He also enjoyed spending the winter season in Florida.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Yukiko (nee Mita); sons, Michael (Gaye) St. John of Avon, grandchildren, Amanda (Jason), Ashley, Krysten, Erica and Brianna (Bill); great-grandson, Jaxon; brothers, Arthur of Geneva on the Lake, Raymond (Marie) of Geneva, David of Columbus and sister, Marjorie Nappi of Ashtabula; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Richard in 2009; parents, Arthur and Viola (nee Koeckert) St. John; brothers, Jim, Willis, Allen, George; sisters, Helen and Dorothy Brown.
A Memorial Service will be planned at a later date.
Arrangements are being handled by the Bogner Family Funeral Home, North Ridgeville.
