Donald L. "Don" Loescher's Obituary
Donald “Don” L. Loescher, age 85 of Elyria, passed away Monday, February 8, 2016 at home, surrounded by his family.
Don was born January 24, 1931 to Sabina and Harold Loescher in Lorain. He was raised in North Ridgeville, where he attended school.
In 1949, Don left North Ridgeville and joined the Air Force. He completed Basic Airman training in San Antonio, Texas and was a certified airplane instrument mechanic and certified in airplane maintenance fundamentals. Don spent time in Japan during the Korean War.
After his return, Don was employed at Fruehauf for two years then at American Crucible in Lorain. Retiring in 1993, after 37 years, Don picked up odd jobs at St. Jude’s school and Holiday Inn in Elyria.
Don was a member of St. Jude’s Parish, life member of VFW Post 1079, American Legion and the 40/8 Club.
Don enjoyed telling stories about his childhood, his time spent in Japan and the pranks he would pull on family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carol (nee Holtwick); son, Timothy (Mary) of Lorain; granddaughters, Alyson (Jason) Rogers, Mallory Loescher; grandson, Ryan Loescher; great-grandsons, Alex Rogers, Aaron Philo, Masin Loescher; brother, Edwin Loescher of Victorville, California; sisters, Sally Burgett of Oberlin, Edith (Bob) Schaffer and Norma Uehlein both of Elyria; brother-in-law, Ed Gulliksen.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Karen Gulliksen.
Friends may call Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8PM at the Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Rd., North Ridgeville. A prayer service will be held on Friday at 12:30PM in the funeral home, followed by a 1PM Mass at St. Jude Catholic Church, 590 Poplar St., Elyria. Rev. Frank Kosem, Pastor, will be the celebrant.
Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery, North Ridgeville where full Military Honors will be conducted by VFW Post 1079.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the VFW Post 1079, 500 South Abbe Rd., Elyria, OH 44035 in memory of Donald Loescher.
