Donald Adkins' Obituary
Donald L. Adkins, age 76, of North Ridgeville, passed away Monday, October 12, 2009 at St. John West Shore Hospital, Westlake, following a lengthy illness.
Born in Wayne, West Virginia, he had been a resident of North Ridgeville for 38 years.
Mr. Adkins served in the US Army during the Korean War.
He worked as a parts purchaser for Ford Motor Company in Brookpark for 32 years, retiring in 1997.
He was a member of United Auto Workers Union, VFW Post 9871, North Ridgeville and Post 7035, Avon.
He was a handyman and enjoyed tinkering around the house, fishing, boating, traveling, cooking and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his daughters, Magel (Donald) Moore of Ashland, Kentucky, Lisa (Kevin) Murphy of Lindenhurst, Illinois, Sandra Adkins of Brookpark; sons, John (Diane) Copley of Wellington, Donald Adkins Jr. of Avon;19 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Altona Rusnak, Sandra Nichols, Barbara Deal; brothers, Ottie Adkins Jr. And William Adkins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, R. Jean Adkins; brothers, Fred, John and Mack Adkins; sister, Swaneda Dean; father, Ottie Adkins Sr.; mother, Malinda Adkins (nee Frazier).
Friends may call Thursday, October 15, 2009 from 1:00 PM until the time of services at 2:00 PM at the David Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville. Rev. Chuck Behrens will officiate.
Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
