Dennis R. Smith's Obituary
Dennis R. Smith, age 68, of North Ridgeville, passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at St. John Medical Center in Westlake, following a short illness.
He was born in Cleveland and had been a resident of North Ridgeville for the past 10 years moving from Rocky River where he resided for 20 years.
Mr. Smith served in the US Army during the Vietnam War.
He worked for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources in the Division of Watercraft, retiring in 2009. He then continued on to work part time until becoming ill three months ago. He was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church in Lakewood, where previously he was an Elder, Deacon and was active on the property committee. Being a “Jack of all Trades” he went on mission trips with several church groups to assist others in need.
He was also a member of the American Legion in Berea, where he had served on the Color Guard.
He loved working outside and doing landscaping.
Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Gail; son, Christopher (Maureen) Smith of Louisville, Kentucky; grandchildren, Connor, Ryan and Riley; his adopted mom, Betty Intorcio of Olmsted Falls; brother-in-law, David Joyner; a nephew and two nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ethel Smith; brother, Martaile Smith and sister, Cheryl Naylor.
Friends may call Wednesday from 5-8 PM at Bogner Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services 36625 Center Ridge Road North Ridgeville where services will be held 1 PM Thursday. Rev. Jim Gilbert and Rev. Lou Will will co- officiate. Private internment will take place in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman. Memorial contributions may be made to SPCA, P.O. Box 157, Grafton, OH 44044.
