Dennis L. Payne's Obituary
Dennis L. Payne, age 72, of North Ridgeville passed away Tuesday June 13, 2023 at Ames Family Hospice in Westlake following a long illness.
Born in Cleveland, he had resided in North Ridgeville the past 36 years.
Dennis served in the US Navy in Vietnam and was a life member, past commander along with several other offices of VFW Post 9871 where he volunteered on the Color Guard. Dennis was VFW District 9 Jr. Vice Commander 2022-23 and was his goal to be District 9 Commander of 2024-25, also severed as Community Service and Poppy Chairman for many years. Dennis also served as the Sr. Vice Commander of the Military Order of the Cootie Grand of Ohio.
His hobbies included golfing, bowling, and playing in softball and baseball leagues.
Dennis was a claims representative for the Department of Veteran Affairs for 32 years, retiring in 2001.
He was a member of St. Julie Billiart Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years Elaine (nee Skrovan), and 3 grandchildren, Ethan Michael, Jameson Allen and Kaylynn Payne.
He was preceded in death by his father, Myles B. Payne, mother Florence Gregory, stepfather, Carl J. Gregory, sons Michael Allen, Mark Andrew Payne, daughter Melissa Ann Payne, brothers Myles Allen Payne, and Michael William Payne.
The family will receive friends 4-7 PM Tuesday June 20, 2023 at the Bogner Family Funeral Home 36625 Center Ridge Road North Ridgeville. A prayer service will be held 10:30 am Wednesday in the funeral home followed by 11 AM Mass at St. Julie Billiart Church, North Ridgeville. Rev. Isidore Munishi will be the celebrant. Burial will follow in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman with full military honors will be rendered by VFW Post 9871.
