Dean J. Mraz's Obituary
Dean J. Mraz, age 50, of Elyria, Sergeant with the North Ridgeville Police Department, passed away Tuesday April 3, 2018 at UH Elyria Medical Center after suddenly being stricken at home.
He was born in Manitowoc, WI and had resided in Elyria since 1995 after moving from Clifton, VA.
Dean was a US Marine during the Gulf War serving as a MP and accident investigator in Quantico, VA.
He earned his Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, Green Bay, WI. He worked as a Police Officer for the City of Fairfax, VA before moving to this area in 1995 when he took a position with the North Ridgeville Police Department, where he has served on the Motorcycle Patrol Unit, D.A.R.E. Officer, Field Trainer and Detective.
Dean loved to go snowmobiling with friends in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. He also found pleasure in camping and riding motorcycles. But clearly his greatest joy was found in sharing his time with his children, family and friends. He also was an avid Detroit Lions and Cleveland sports fan.
Survivors include his loving wife of 26 years, Lucy (nee Slager), son Dean Joseph, daughter Isabel, both at home, parents, Gene and Karen Mraz of Two Rivers, WI, sister, Pam (Jim) Higgins of Rothschild, WI, brother David (Katrina) Mraz of Cato, WI and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 2-6 PM at Bogner Family Funeral Home 36625 Center Ridge Road North Ridgeville. Funeral Services will take place 10 AM Monday in the funeral home. Chaplin Brian Palmer, of the NRPD will officiate. Burial will follow in Butternut Ridge Cemetery with full military honors.
