David Robert "Dave" Smeltz's Obituary
David Robert “Dave” Smeltz, age 82, of Elyria, passed away on September 6, 2023 at the Ames Family Hospice House in Westlake.
He was born on January 11, 1941 in Wilkinsburg, PA and has been a resident of Elyria and Avon for the past 70 years, moving from Mellon Plan, PA.
Dave was employed as a sheet metal worker for Luxury Heating, retiring in 1983 after 26 years of service, and was a trained locksmith. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Elyria.
Dave would spend his summers camping with his family and was an avid CB radio enthusiast. He and his wife Lillian travelled extensively throughout the country together. He also enjoyed working on model airplanes, drag racing, watching NASCAR and had a great love of music.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lillian (nee Heveker); daughters Barbara (Robert) Spishak of Collins, Ohio and Terri (Paul Kokinda) Turner of Elyria; grandchildren Stephanie (Dan Arndt) Turner, Jessi (Adam Holp) Turner, Hope (Josh Adkins) Spishak and Robert (Meeghin) McKain; great grandchildren Ellie Tucker, Trevor Arndt, Leo Arndt, Hunter Holp and Gavin and Remi McKain; many nieces and nephews.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Jean (nee Wolslagel) Smeltz; brother Howard Smeltz; sisters June Polick and Carol Lehman.
Family will receive friends in the Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Rd., N. Ridgeville on Tuesday from 4:00-7:00 p.m.
Funeral Service Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
