Cecil Simmons' Obituary
Cecil E. Simmons, 84 of North Ridgeville died Sunday June 7, 2009 at St. John Westshore Hospital, Westlake, following a long illness.
Cecil moved to North Ridgeville from PA in 1974. He received his Master's degree in Meteorology, and retired from the National Weather Service in 1983. He was a US Army veteran who served during the Korean War. Mr. Simmons was a member of Fields United Methodist Church, North Ridgeville, a life member of the Elyria ELKS, NARFE, the North Ridgeville VFW Post 9871, the Civil Service Commission, North Ridgeville, and had served on the Advisory Board for senior citizens, Elyria. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and reading.
Surviving are his wife of fifty years, Elizabeth (nee VanVliet); daughter, Rebecca Harris (Jim) of LaGrange; son, Craig (Michelle) of Carlsbed, NM; three grandchildren, Michael, Elizabeth and Patrick Simmons; sisters, Marion Sherman and Beatrice Borden of Wellsboro, PA and six brothers, Richard, Perley, Ronald, Raymond, Bernard and Lloyd Simmons, all of Wellsboro, PA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nora and Perley Simmons.
Family will receive friends Tuesday from 7-9PM at the David Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Rd., North Ridgeville. VFW Post 9871 will conduct a wake service at 8:00PM, Tuesday in the funeral home. Funeral Service will be 11AM Wednesday at Fields United Methodist Church, 34077 Lorain Rd., North Ridgeville, 44039. Rev. Mike Gibson will officiate. Graveside services at 1PM Thursday at West Branch Cemetery, Wellsboro, PA.
