Billy Jones' Obituary
Billy Jones, age 82 of Elyria went home to the Lord Wednesday July 9, 2008 at New Life Hospice Residential Center, Lorain following a long illness.
He was born on October 15, 1925 in Chattanooga, TN. He and his wife resided in Spring City, TN until moving to Elyria in 1952.
Mr. Jones served his country from 1944-1946 in the US Army as a heavy mortar crewman, receiving an EAME Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Star among various other awards. He retired in 1985 from the Brook Park Ford Plant following thirty-one years service as an engine inspector. He last attended First Baptist Church, LaGrange.
Mr. Jones gave of himself unselfishly to help others, and was known as the neighborhood's Mr. fix-it. He enjoyed repairing antique clocks, and was a member of the Watch and Clock Association Northeast Ohio Chapter. He also enjoyed his duties as a Boy Scout Troop leader, especially during his son's years of membership, vegetable gardening, and cherished time spent with his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife of fifty-eight years, Bernice "June" (nee Brown); daughter, Ruth A. Gemmel (Emil) of Berlin Center, OH; son, James "Marvin" (Lula), of Sheffield Lake; ten grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, William L. And Grace M. Jones (nee Cranmore); son, Norman Douglas Jones in 1996 and two brothers, Leonard Jones and Roy Lee Posey Jr.
Visitation will be from 2-5PM Sunday at the David Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Rd., North Ridgeville, where services will be held at 11:00AM Monday. Rev. Walter Spieth, Associate Pastor of First Baptist Church, LaGrange will officiate. Burial to follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon where the North Ridgeville VFW Post 9871 will conduct full military honors.
