Berton E. Peepers' Obituary
Berton E. Peepers, age 95, of Elyria, passed away on March 26, 2015 at Wesleyan Village in Elyria .
He was born on February 2, 1920 in Cleveland and has lived in Elyria since 1985, moving from North Ridgeville.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, and a Purple Heart recipient serving with the 889th Tank Destroyer Battalion as a messenger for the command post, and later became a tank commander. He has recently written some of his war experiences for the local newspapers and for the Thunder Roads Magazine. Berton was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post 9871 in North Ridgeville where he was a member of the Color Guard for many years. He enjoyed traveling, visiting old war buddies and attending his war reunions. He also enjoyed gardening and did so with a passion until he was 94 years old.
Berton is survived by his daughter Cherie Sanborn of Streetsboro; son Patrick (Deborah) Peepers of Spencer; grandchildren Christy Kegg Ramsey and Danny (Chris Krotinak) Kegg; great grandchildren Brittany Johnson, Cody Merrow and Zachary Kegg; sister Lavina Roth; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, AnnaMarie “Rie” Peepers; sisters Virginia Rasmussen, Thelma Hafner, Elsie Peepers; brothers Gustav, Jack, Richard and Larry Peepers and Bill Peppers.
Family will receive friends in the Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Rd., N. Ridgeville on Monday 4-7 p.m. Funeral Services Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Rev. Beth McKee will officiate. Interment with Full Military Honors conducted by V.F.W. 9871, North Ridgeville, will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens.
