Artie R. Napier Jr.'s Obituary
Husband, Father, Grandfather, and life of the party, Artie R. Napier, Jr. was many things to so many people. Our “Captain” passed away at home surrounded by family, peacefully on February 18, 2017. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Marlene Kay Napier (Cogar). He is also survived by his daughter, Kimberly Myers and husband Rick Myers of Richfield; son Michael Napier of Grafton, son Scott Napier and wife Tracy Spyker of Massillon, and his youngest son Brad Napier and wife Bobbie Napier of Amherst. Twelve grandchildren brought him immense joy; Ashley, Alexander, Michael, Kaleigh, Zachary, Stephanie, Sarah, Jacob, Brooke, Christian, Bradley, and Jesse.
He was born on June 22,1943 in Columbus, Ohio, and was the pride and joy of the late Effie Lee Napier and Artie R. Napier, Sr. He has two sisters, Ernestine Moore of North Ridgeville, and Barbara Richardson of North Ridgeville. He was also predeceased by an older brother, Henry L. Napier of Elyria, Ohio.
He married Marlene Kay Cogar and enjoyed 53 years of marriage. Together they brought joy to so many family and friends. Their home was nothing short of “grand central station” on any given day of the week. Their backyard provided generations of memories from family picnics, weddings, and summer cookouts!
Artie served as a Committee Man for Ford Motor Company, and retired after 30 years. He was an avid pool player, and spent many years enjoying this as a pastime with friends! Once retired, he loved spending his winters in Florida, calling folks in Ohio bragging about the warm weather, and spending time at the beach. His Ohio summers were spent at home with family, and his ultimate joy was being the Captain of his boat on Lake Erie! From parasailing, tubing, fishing or just floating on a hot summer day; this would be considered a perfect day. Oh, and he loved Thursdays - there is no one that loved having garage sales more than this man! It was a way to talk to people, share stories, and offer a great deal.
Artie was the life of the party!
