I have fond memories of John Theobald from my earliest days. Though my relationship to him was "first cousin once removed", the yearly Theobald family reunion brought the extended family together for over 50 years, and so I remember seeing him once a year from my earliest days.
John was about 6'3", which is tall. But to a small kid, someone of this height is not just tall, but gigantically tall. So this was John Theobald, a giant, vivacious, very much a presence, always connecting and always positive.
A treat of the yearly Theobald reunions was the "White Elephant Auction", made memorable by John being the auctioneer. It was such a treat to see him him in action. With a good auctioneer, the flow of words is mesmerizing. John was masterful in his delivery.
Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord.
