Mike Mitchell
I lived across the street from the Longs
for many years - they were a great
Family with a capital F . I was a kid at
the time and was in between the ages of Barry & Scott . We played a lot of neighborhood sports together. I could always knock on their door and get as many as 5 guys to come out and play
street football. When it was time to come in, Mr Long would give the call and all the boys would run right in. There was an obvious respect and admiration that his kids had for Mr Long . I still remember and admire that respect - raising 6 kids in the 70's and early 80's was not easy . Our family
was half their size and the times were economically challenging. I don't know how they did it . Yet the whole family
Always had great positive attitudes - they were a true asset to the neighborhood. I moved away when I
left for college in 1980, but I recently
had the pleasure of meeting up with Mr Long's son Kevin - he's the same great person he always was, and now has his own great family . Mr Long
must have a big smile as he looks
down - he taught his kids great things and they have all accomplished great things . I was also sad to hear of Mr Long's wife's passing , as well as that of their oldest son Les . Les left us much too early - God must have needed him for something big ......so although this is written many years after Mr Long's passing, it is never too late to pay tribute to a great man who raised a great family whom is surely remembered fondly by all who crossed his path on life's journey .
To Scott, Barry, Kevin, Erin, and Doug - your loss was great, just like your Dad
