I want to extend my deepest sympathy to the Spann family. I had the privilege to work many soccer games with Sam and I will miss those times. Weather it was discussing some rule change or the glories of SEC football, he was always had something insightful to say. I will miss him very much.
As a fellow soccer referee, I always enjoyed working with Sam. I will miss seeing him on the pitch and send my condolences to his family and friends.
I join with so many others who knew Sam, both as a referee and a friend, in offering my deepest sympathy on his passing.

We extend our deepest sympathy to you, the Spann family. We lived on Fox Hollow until we moved back to Tennessee in 2000. When I read of his attack, while umpiring the game, I thought this has to be Sam. We remember the day you moved in; Al and I brought a box of doughnuts to you.
