Joseph John Kordek

July 4, 1924 - May 3, 2022

Joseph John Kordek, age 97, of North Ridgeville, passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at Rae Ann Suburban in Westlake. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 4, 1924 and had been a resident of North Ridgeville since 1957. He served in the US Army Air Force during WWII and worked as a foreman for Phoenix Dye in Cleveland, retiring in 1989 after 48 years of service. Joseph was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in North Ridgeville, Holy Name Society, North Ridgeville VFW Post 9871, United Polish Club, Elyria and American Legion Post 118 in Amherst. Joe always enjoyed letting people know that they could take the day off for his birthday on July 4th. He also enjoyed bowling and traveling to the casino and playing the slot machines. The summer months would find him fishing, tending to his garden and making wine. Survivors include his daughter, Janet (Dick) Bogardy of Amherst; grandchildren Heather (Kenneth) Warta on NC, Ashley Kordek of Amherst, Scott Kordek of Seville, Andy Kordek of NC, Michael Schmidt of FL and Amy Kordek of Medina; 4 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine “Cookie” Kordek (nee Tepper); sons, Fred and Bill Kordek; longtime companion Betty Hrehocik; parents, Frank and Anna Kordek; brothers, John, Frank, Steve and Stanly Kordek; sisters, Stephene Kordek, Anna Gunia, Francis Pilarczyk, Florence Wozny and Theresa Wozny. Family will receive friends in the Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Rd., N. Ridgeville on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. and on Monday for a 9:30 a.m. prayer service preceding a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter Church, 35777 Center Ridge Rd., N. Ridgeville. Rev. Bob Franco and Rev. Frank Kordek will concelebrate. The American Legion Post 118 Amherst will honor their departed veteran with a service at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. Interment with full military honors conducted by VFW Post 9871, North Ridgeville, will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
