Jennifer G. Smith
December 22, 1946 - April 10, 2022
Jennifer G. Smith (nee Henson), 75, of Elyria went home to be with her beloved husband Jim on Sunday April 10, 2022. She fought courageously and steadfastly for nine months after being diagnosed with cancer. Despite losing her ability to speak and swallow, she was still determined to live her life to its fullest and love those around her as fiercely as possible. Jennifer was born and raised in North Ridgeville and graduated from North Ridgeville High School in 1965. Jennifer worked for the Elyria City Schools for 30 years before retiring in 2016. She was an active member of Christ Church in Elyria. Jennifer enjoyed gardening and working in her yard and had a green thumb like no other. An avid reader, she also enjoyed most types of crafts, especially cross-stitch and card-making. Above all else, Jennifer loved spending time with her family. Jennifer is survived by her loving family: daughter Tamara (Brian) Beckloff of Grafton, son Richard (Marie) Smith of Elyria, son Matthew (Karen Lemister) Smith of Lakeland, Florida, and daughter Sarah (Matthew) Barbee of Elyria; granddaughter Katrina (David) Schmitz of Elyria, grandson Ryan (Trinity Brown) Beckloff of Berea, grandson Jacob (Madeline Roth) Smith of Elyria, and granddaughter Baby Girl Barbee (due June 2022); sister Sandra (Hugh) Graham of Tavares, Florida and brother Gerald Henson of Elyria; brothers-in-law William Reinhart and William Bennett; sister-in-law Karen Kiser and brothers-in-law Jerome Smith and Martin (Jean) Smith; and a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins. Jennifer was preceded in death by her soul mate James Smith; parents Edward and Doris Henson; brother Neil Henson and sisters Joyce Reinhart and Sally Bennett; sisters-in-law Rose Henson, Donna (Fred) Martin, Lois (Leo) Wohlever, and Gayle Smith; brothers-in-law Thomas (Constance) Smith and Thomas Kiser. The family would like to thank the ER and SICU staff at UH Elyria for taking such great care of Jennifer during her final hours, as well as her care team at the Cleveland Clinic for being with her every step of the way in her fight. A Celebration of Jennifer's Life will be held at a later date. To send an online condolence please visit www.bognerfamilyfuneral home.com
