Gary Allen Lander

January 3, 1944 - June 19, 2020

Gary Allen Lander, age 76, passed from this world at his home in Wellington Friday June 19 following a lengthy illness. Gary was born January 3, 1944 in Elyria, Ohio and had resided at his home in Wellington for the last 41 years. Gary graduated from Elyria High School in 1962. He then went to work at the GM Fisher Guide plant in Elyria and became a journeyman Tool & Die maker. He had stops at 4 GM plants in a career of over 30 years. After retiring from GM, he worked part time for Forest City & Whrilaway in Wellington, for a number of years. Gary always preferred being outdoors whether he was fishing, hunting, tending his garden or helping out on relative’s farms or orchards. Gary also enjoyed all things related to locomotives and was a member of the Lakeshore Railroad Association. He also enjoyed fast cars, drag racing at Norwalk in the 60’s, running rat racers at Lorain speedway in the 70’s and street stock cars at Sandusky speedway in the 80’s. Gary is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years Sharon (Jares), his son Travis (Amy), daughter Megan (Gregory) Jackson and grandchildren Michael, Donovan, Ryan, Alicia, Mason, and Claire as well as brothers Carl, Brian (Ann), of Elyria, David (Joan) of Sandusky and sisters Barbara Lander of Elyria, Marcia (Mike) Molyneux of Brooksville Florida, Diane (Gerold) Miller of Cincinnati, Linda (Jerry) Owens of Monroeville and his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father John, mother Florence, and brother Dennis. Gary will be remembered by his family and friends as a man with a big heart who was always willing to help with any task or chore. If he wasn’t busy lending a hand he was probably giving you a good natured hard time about something because…..well just Gary being Gary. He will be missed. Friends may call Wednesday 4-7PM at the Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville. Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, social distancing and face coverings will be required. A service will be held on Thursday at 11am in the funeral home. Rev. Greg Voight will officiate. For those not able to attend, services will be live streamed on Bogner Family Funeral Home Facebook page. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lake Shore Railway Association, PO Box 3, Wellington, Ohio 44090 For further information or to send an online condolence, please visit www.bognerfamilyfuneralhome.com
