Life's little ironies over the course of time are what make living so simultaneously interesting, joyful, and (sometimes unfortunately) sad. While searching for my dear Aunt Joan Lasch's obituary on this very site I happened upon Jerry's. What are the odds?! In the summer of 1969 Jerry hired me for my very first teaching job, at Wilcox Elementary School in North Ridgeville. I'll never forget my first meeting with him in the old school district building on Center Ridge Road! His personality and demeanor were such that I almost immediately felt completely "at ease" and the interview, obviously, went better than I had expected before walking into his office. Between Jerry's professional support during my early years at Wilcox and the help and direction of Wilcox's principal Don Casey, I was
well tutored to begin a career in public and private education that formally ended in 2001.
I owe Jerry a debt of gratitude for giving me the initial opportunity to join a community of educators who toil mightily to keep the beacons of hope and promise shining as brightly as they can. Thank you, Jerry!
