Rebecca L. Sperry - Aurora, Co - Neice
I remember is {1} the first big family trip to Rock wood Tennessee in the late 1960's. It was a journey of epic proportions. There was a convoy made up of a trailer, a day cruiser , and a quite a number of cars in all shapes and sizes. That is the year Grandma and Grandpa Hopkins came along as well as and aunt and uncle and two cousins from my dad's side of the family.
Water skiing, fishing, swimming, and hanging out at the Eagle Lodge version of a general store talking with old Gawky, Joan, Timmy, Meridith and Karen Smith. and at any time the day knowing there was probably a mean game of sixty-six or penny-any poker happening at one of the lodges on the hill
One other thing Aunt Velma was a huge part of my life, I have memories of her that are as simple as staying at Maddock rd. for the a night or weekend and Aunt Velma handing me a coloring book that had little dots of watercolors on the drawings. giving me a little cup of water and telling me to be careful with it. I loved seeing the colors pop as I swirled water on the page of the book. I could not have been more than 5 or 6 years old then maybe younger.
Aunt Velma was my aunt who gave hugs by showing me the world in a beautiful collection of dolls, and coins from around the world. She taught me elegance, frugality and grace. She was tough and courageous and she will be missed beyond words. My heart is torn.
Blessings, Timmy, Sandy, Mike and to all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren of a very remarkable women.
Blessings,
